I could write a book

May was the last time I did a blog post, WOW! There has been so much going on in my life that I could write a book. Since I do not want to write a book, I will summarize for you so you can catch up on all the great things that have been going on in my life.

Not sure many of you know that I have two businesses one is my photography (Re-Image Photo) which I started back in 2006. The journey of owning and operating a business of my own has been one adventure after another, and a progression of Try-Fail-Adjust, which has been a great learning experience. I have been blessed to have met so many amazing people, and I got the chance to take a small part in their lives and hopefully bless them with my photography. Last year while visiting with my hubby in Chicago, IL we both got to meet great people. They were brought into our lives and continue to be a blessing teaching us principals of what our country was founded on. I am privileged to get to learn from people who have a dream, and no matter what anyone says their dream can not be taken away. Just a few weeks ago we all got to see Dr. John Maxwell speak and he lit the room of 15,000 people with leadership principals and explained to us that we need to bet on ourselves before anyone can bet on us. You have to own your dream. A new dream of mine is being able to bless people and give them the same blessing that I received last year. Affecting the lives of others and making a difference in this world is a new and exciting journey. Helping to change lives and teach leadership principals, mentor-ship, and that love, respect, and dreams are not bad words.

Back to catching you up on whats been going on- April mom and dad came to visit Ralph and I in Oahu, Hawaii! We were so excited they took time out of their days and spent a fantastic 2 weeks with us. During there stay the four of us shot over 3,000 pictures, we flew to 2 islands; The Big Island and Kauai. The four of us saw a volcano, and the Grand Canyon of Hawaii, which was amazing. Kauai is my favorite island for sure. Ralph and I wish it were longer, but we know we will be able to spend so much more time with them and there will be no worries in the future. Fast forward to July and August, I got to spend 41 days traveling to Chicago for a leadership conference and spent 12 days there after visiting Florida for 9 days. I flew back into West Palm Beach and stayed there for 20 days. During my stay in Florida I was blessed to get to photograph many families, and got the chance to capture their family memories with each other. My trip to Florida was awesome, and the support of all of my clients was overwhelming. Also during my Florida stay I got to see my cousin which I hadn't seen in a few years and I met baby Connor. The last day they were in town we went to the beach and it was just like old times. In September one of my very best friends came to Hawaii to visit me and her stay was so nice. We got to go to the Big Island and she saw a volcano for the first time. Right after Lauren's trip then we had 2 more people come and stay with us. Kristy and Mike were with us for 20 days and we toured Oahu with them, and it was a great carefree time with good friends. During the month of October I went back to Chicago for another leadership conference which is where I saw Dr. John Maxwell, which leads me back to the beginning of my post. In between all of my traveling I have been photographing new born sessions, baby sessions, family sessions, seniors, couples, and its been a great year so far! I look forward and expect next year to be just as amazing.

So there you have it, now you are caught up on what has been going on.

Ko'Olina, Hawaii and the new studio

I can't believe it has been over a week since my last blog. I am trying this new idea of being consistant.. do you think it worked? ;) What happened to at least 1 post every Monday?!
Well any how I wanted to do a blog post so I thought I would go back to few weeks ago when I photographed a friend of mine and her family. We live in Hawaii so when her family came in to visit naturally they decided to do their pictures outside at the beautiful Ko'Olina resort. We were all exciting to watch the sunset in just take in the beauty of Hawaii. The hubby and I snapped a few pictures as the kids played and we had a great time. Here are a few of my fav's
A couple of days ago I photographed in my new studio, and it was a ton of fun. I had the cutest 4 month old on my white seamless backdrop propped up on a beanbag. Well, being that he is 4 months and he is pretty strong so I decided that the bean bag was not going to work for to long. I then remember one of my favorite photographers (Sandy Puc') that photographs mainly family portraits and babies, and we got to work using mom as a prop. I think we captured some really cute ones of Kaleb and his family. The portrait session is on the website but here are a couple of my fav's from the session.

In the March issue of Photoshop User magazine one of my favorite instructor's Jane Conner-Ziser, is featured in an article on "Retouching Real People: A Master's Approach," and when I saw this title I got excited. I have always retouched real people, making sure to keep each individual looking like themselves from the image being captured at the click of the shutter to the final print. Each step along the way I am enhancing the eyes and touching up ever so slightly so that when you see your print you love it. You get the feeling of, "I don't know why, but I love this print so much there is just something special about it but I cannot put my finger on it." That is my favorite response to a final print. My final prints keep you looking like you, but with a beautiful soft style of retouching.
Another favorite instructor of mine would have to be Katrin Eismann (Photoshop Diva). A couple of years ago while I was at a weekend seminar I took a class that she was teaching and she said one thing that has stuck with me "The eyes are the windows to the soul." This statement remains true throughout my retouching style. Below is a before and after picture of a high school senior that I shot while living in Florida.

I had the honor and privilege of photographing our friends vow renewal's. Each year Jesse & Vicki renew their vows on their anniversary day. This year the ceremony took place in Kaneohe, Hawaii on the Marine Corp Base at the beach. The had a beautiful backdrop behind them as the exchanged leis and renewed their love for each other. After the ceremony we had really yummy red velvet cupcakes and cookies along with XS of course. On the XS tabs Vicki made favors and the tabs have cute sayings on them; for instance mine says "A Success marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person." Enjoy a few of my favorites below. CONGRATULATIONS!!

Mud Fun

Sometimes you just have to get dirty. Enjoy a few pictures from today's Swamp Romp at the MCB in Kaneohe, Hi. Coming from Florida, and having lived there all my life, I felt like there should have been alligators mixed in with the mud. Back home in Florida you would not want to walk near the everglades (swampy area) because there would be alligators lurking, and today reminded me a little bit of back home minus the alligators. The view from the large mud area and the view at the ocean were breathtaking. We are going snorkeling tomorrow and will get some awesome pictures and I will post another blog for Monday. Today's blog is a special treat.

150 miles in 2 days on an island

Started our long weekend out just right. On Friday we went and had dinner with a friend of ours and that was the first time I tried and liked Chili! Ha who would have known. Thanks Crystal for having us over for dinner :)

Saturday morning we decided to take a drive to North Shore on the Leeward side of Oahu Hawaii. The drive over there is highway until you reach a town and then as soon as you can see the ocean from your elevation it is just breathtaking. Hundreds and Hundreds of trees line the road so perfectly and at the bottom of the road you can see the clear blue/green water. I have pictures of North Shore below this post for you to view and aww at. After our trip to North Shore we has a pleasent evening baby sitting, and then we tried to stay up all night until sunrise, but I feel asleep for about an hour. The alarms were set for 5:30am and we sprung out of bed and hit H2 and drove to the Halona Blowhole and set up our camera and just waited for the sunrise. After the sun was up and the sky was filled with light we continued out journey to Kaneohe and made many stops along the way photographing at various beaches. We caught up with H3 and took that home, took a quick nap and then it was out to dinner at Haleiwa Joes. Within 2 days we traveled 150 miles on an island that is only 44 miles long and 30 miles wide, and we saw and photographed at many places along our route. First off I would like to say a very happy birthday to my sister Dawn. With her being in Florida and me being in Hawaii we were able to skype (www.skype.com) and I got to sing happy birthday to her with my family and watched her open up presents.. now if we could just figure out a way how to get her birthday cake through the computer that would be awesome!! You see, every year my dad makes all of our favorite cakes and each one is different flavors and this will be the first year that I will not get to eat funetti cake with them. My family is coming to visit in April, so I can't wait for my birthday cake a month early!

We had a busy last two weeks, with me getting a new desk with lots and lots of storage and I will post a photo when everything is all set up. A huge thank you to Chris for helping us move the desk to our house and setting up the desk for my husband upstairs as well as my new one, and a huge thank you to Jody for finding my new desk!

Saturday my husband and two of our friends went on a hike to Makapuu Light House, which is on the wind ward side of Oahu. Makapu'u Lighthouse is one of Hawaii's most familiar landmarks commanding a spectacular view of the Windward side of O'ahu. The Makapuu Light house was built in 1909 and the trail that leads to the light house is a 2-mile steep incline to hike so you will want to rest at the stops along the hike and catch your breath. Once you reach the top you will have a breath taking view of the coastline and the island of Molokai. We were also lucky enough to see humpback whales in the far distance. We are planning a boat trip when my family gets here to go whale watching in a more up close range. The hike is beautiful and is best to do first thing in the morning or during the cooler evening, as there is no shade to escape from the sun once your start your hike up to the light house. Sunset Part 2

Mt. Tantalus is a great place to visit while in Oahu, Hawaii. My husband and I have been to this location on two occasions already as seen from the last two weeks of my blogs. The first visit to Mt. Tantalus was at sunset and we stopped off and photographed at the park, but was asked to leave shortly after that because of closing time. We decided to see if we could find another lookout that would look west so that we could attempt to get some sunset pictures. We drove all the way around the mountain and finally found a turn off, which was not a lookout but we decided to set up for a couple of hours and photograph from that point to get another perspective. From where we were we were able to see the airport, Punch Bowl Crater, and downtown Honolulu. I hope you enjoy the pictures and be sure to leave a comment.

Sunset in Hawaii

I always like to help where I can, and now I am finally getting to do that. Last Wednesday I got the chance to help a young lady with her photography. We started out by getting to know the camera and then walked around the block to photograph what drew her eye most. After spending a little bit of time with her I realized that I would love to get a small group of fellow photographers (professional or hobbyist) together to photograph around the beautiful island of Oahu. We could visit one new place once a week and I would be there to guide you and teach you a little of my knowledge of principles and elements of design as well as getting to know your camera. On a side note I... I also put myself on little assignments every week to keep my eye fresh and my heart open. Last night we drove to Round top Dr, on the way up there, there are many switchbacks and uphil climbs and the road is narrow. When you get there the view is just spectacular. We arrived just as the sun was setting and there was a fairly large crowd of people admiring the beauty of nature. We will be heading back to photograph the sunset at another time and was unable to get photographs of the setting sun last night. We did however hang around for a bit after everyone left and we hung out and watch the lights from the city start to turn on and how the day turned into night and then we got kicked out. The park is very specific to its 6:45pm closing time. Thank you to Laura who pointed us to the lookout spot and park. Enjoy!! These are 3 of my favorites from this shoot.

giving back

   So confusing why my home town almost had snow, I thought we are in a global warming crisis. So does that mean we get colder winters and warmer summers? Seeing steam rising from an ocean is something you don't see every day in Florida. Hawaii has beautiful warm weather with a slight breeze to keep you cool while your hiking. I woke up this morning and thought it was cold when it was in the high 60's haha. It is funny how you body adapts to it's surroundings.
   I have started to teach photography and I am thinking about starting a Photography club on base to be able to give hands on training. This is one aspect in my life that I have not yet experienced and I would like to help other achieve their goals and dreams in life, and it all starts with a plan.

   The studio is almost up and running just need to figure out where to take all of the garbage we accumulated from moving. There are boxes in a stack almost the height over my garage. help! haha.

"once in a blue moon"

"Once in a blue moon" now I know what that phrase means. Below you will find pictures of the blue moon that was on December 31st (New Year's Eve). A blue moon is not really blue in color the term just means a 2nd full moon to fall in one calendar month. We had our first full moon in the beginning of December which allowed another full moon to come at the end of the month. The moon rising was a spectacular site to see on top of a mountain looking down into the valley of the city of Kilua and looking out east to the ocean as the moon began to rise into the clouds. Enjoy mine and my husband's pictures our first orange-blue moon while living in Hawaii.

Happy Holidays to everyone!

I hope you all had a great year, and are making your news years resolutions for 2010.

I had a great Christmas with my hubby for our real first Christmas together as husband and wife. Our Christmas last was spent in separate locations while he finished up his Navy Diver training in IL. Not having the family around this time made the days go a lot slower, but I am so thankful to have had my husband by my side this year, but next year we plan on spending Christmas in Florida with the family.

My husband Ralph has always told me to use a tripod and I always argued that I didn't like them because I felt confined to the ways of the tripod. That was until I saw this amazing 360 degree squeeze handle ball head for the tripod on an photography video. So guess what.. my lovely husband decided to get me a tripod, ball head, and new fixed wide angle lens for me this year!! So away we went at 6am Sunday morning to practice my first sunrise shots with my new toys. Slow shutter speed and f22 is where it is at for scenery. There is a picture of me with my new toys below, and a couple of the shots that I like from this morning. The wide angle 2.8f is amazing just to put it lightly!

The first 3 images are at Pali lookout.. you can see almost all of the east coast of Oahu, Hawaii from here. We also tried a hand at self portraits.. haha. The picture under that is of Hanuman Bay, which is a place to go snorkeling, we have not been there yet, but we plan on it when friends and family come to visit us in the coming year.

   It has been a busy these last two weeks in Hawaii. I was in Chicago for a business trip for a week, and we went to a Christmas dinner with the company this past Saturday. Chicago was a blast, and I got to met some awesome people, and I finally got to see a snow fall. When I first got to the airport it was cold, and it was snowing. My body didn't know what to think because less then 24 hours ago I was in the tropics. Its nice to finally see what people were talking about all theses years when they would say "its beginning to look a lot like Christmas". Haha. Seeing fresh white snow on top of the trees really put together the picture of a "white Christmas" for me. Chicago has the most amazing light too. Every morning when I first woke up, I would peak my head outside of the sliding glass door into the 9 degree chill, to take pictures of the snow. I couldn't help to noticed that the lighting in Illinois is so vastly differnt then the light in Florida or Hawaii. The city buildings created some really cool shadows and highlights details which were just amazing to stare at and photograph.
   After arriving back into Hawaii and my hubby greeting me at the airport I get home and find tons of boxes all over the house from the downstairs to the garage to the upstairs. Our house hold goods finally came in, which we were only missing everything we owned since October 20th, except what fit into our suitcases. It is so nice to finally be able to use our weddings presents from last year. Thank you to everyone for our gifts for our wedding, we are defiantly starting to put everything to good use.
   The Christmas party at the boss's house was nice, and it was great meeting the rest of the new company that is almost all pulled together now. Once the company is established then the boys can do their thing. There was a chewing gum competition with whip cream and my hubby won! So what it was was a plate full of whip cream and on the bottom of the plate was a frozen piece of chewing gum, and whom ever could get the first real bubble out of the gum would win, and you can find the pictures below. Natural light..

This week we decided to take the puppies out for a hike. My husband and I went with our friends and we brought our dogs with us to a beautiful early morning hike which is shown in the first two images below. We started up hill and got tired pretty early into our hike so I decided to take a break and photograph what was all around us. We were surrounded with nature, and it was breathtaking.

The other pictures below are from a portrait session that my husband and I got to photograph which was special to capture because of the addition to their family of their new baby girl. We were the ones that got to capture her newborn portraits of her, and got a really awesome one of her brother watching over her..just like a big brother would do. The sunset image was shot just after this session a little ways down the road. As Ralph and I were leaving our session we were driving down the road and caught a glimpse of the setting sun and just had to stop and photograph it.

The last 2 images were shot yesterday at Pali lookout in Oahu, Hawaii. Both photographs are a caliberation of my husband and my eyes, and heart. The last image was seen by me and shot by my husband. He was carring my camera and I saw for a split second the beautiful contrast of the dark blue sky again the shadows of the path that we were on, and I was like take it.. take it!!!

Re-Image Photo Seems like I have adjusted well to Hawaii so far. The scenery is to die for.. talk about mountains all around you with no place to go and the ocean is as far as you can see into the distance. Hawaii is a wonderful place to be while my husband does his training as a US NAVY DIVER. I am so proud of him, and us for taking this leap of faith and exploring options that were once out of our reach.

The pictures from today are from a hike called Diamond Head. Diamond Head is the most famous volcanic crater in the world which over looks the Pacific Ocean. Between 1908-1911 a fire control station was built and used as an observation post to spot enemies in the Pacific.

Crazy times we live in

It seems like every day technology is improving and old technology is dying. I was told recently at a seminar that CD's/DVD's are only supposed to have a life expectancy of 3 years. I thought to myself.. wow! We are constantly backing up our beloved images onto CD's/DVD's, and now they are going to die, yikes! What about all the wedding photography that is being done and the client only receives the DVD of the images? Will they have a DVD that will no longer be able to be view. Wouldn't it be nice to have ALL of your precious images in a Coffee Table Album for everyone to look at? I mean think about it.. you can place a few hundred images into a beautiful library bound, flush mount coffee table album, now doesn't that sounds pleasant? It scares me that we may look back a few years from now and be sad to find out that clients wedding photography is nonexistent due to DVD's/CD's failing after 3 years. Just a thought. The other problem I have with Cd's/Dvd's is that the quality of the image that you would print would not be the same great quality of image that I would print for you. The color, density, and saturation would not come close to my monitor calibrated prints sent to a professional printer outside the state of Florida.
But do not fret Re-Image Photo will always deliver finished archival beautiful quality work to you directly.

Many Great Stories..always unfolding.

For this blog I decided to post a couple of images from each session that I have done recently. The PBCMP Barrel shows have been in full swing, and its great to see new faces. The PBCMP Pleasure Show has also being doing well, but it seems to me that all the 11-17 year old's are no where to be found for the western division. I remember showing at the "old" posse grounds, and I was competing against 8 or more people.

On the flip side of horses, my cousin was in a fashion show at school, and this was one of my favorite images from the night. Everyone look and did so well.

On March 29th Wellington's Edge opened it's doors to a fantastic GRAND OPENING. There were vendors selling anything from hot dogs to saddles, and everything in between. The Chili Chicks were a great addition as well. All in all we had great weather and a great time.. thanks to everyone at Wellington's Edge for allowing me to be part of your special day!

After the grand opening I decided to swing by the 4H Show and catch the last part of the trail class, and was excited to be able to see a reining class, and workshop. Its not to often do you get to see horses sliding to a dead stop, and turning 360 degree for 4 times. Its pretty cool stuff!

This was such an amazing weekend, partly because my best friend whom I have know for 16 years just got married, and I was lucky enough to get to photograph the wedding. Josh & Katie got married in a beautiful outdoor setting just outside of Orlando, FL. The 100 year old oak trees and moss made for a gorgeous background for our pictures. Josh and Katie I hope you enjoy your pictures, and enjoy each other each and everyday. Thank you for letting me be apart of your BIG DAY!
